Visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake

As promised, here's my post on my latest day trip where I recently headed down to Niagara Falls and the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake : ) With the splendid weather the past few days, there were lots of tourists about and the vibe in the town was absolutely fantastic! It always strikes me as a little strange that Niagara Falls is the honeymoon capital of the world. Of course, the view is stunning and if you have yet to see it I would suggest it one day, but since I live only an hour away it seems so normal to me : ) Probably feels similarly for other people near the Eiffel Tower or the Tower of London. Or maybe it's just me, I don't know : ) libraryWe started out our time at a beautiful restaurant and hotel called 'The Queens Landing' where I spent a few moments looking in their library. For a bookworm, it is definitely a dream coming true! All the books are old styles, hardcovers and the library itself is a vision in dark wood and feels like it immediately transports you back to the olden days in the eighteen hundreds. PofWAfter strolling a ways down the road, we crossed by the historic 'Prince of Wales Hotel'. I've always wanted to have tea and cakes there : ) The Royal Family (specifically the Queen Mum) stayed there at one time and when you go in, the hotel is definitely a nod to the old Canadian lineage from England. Never disappointing for a history nerd! apothecaryOne of my favourite spots as well is the old 'Apothecary' shop which shows you all the old remedies for different illnesses from headaches to feminine discomforts. It's so strange what used to be considered a cure, haha! After that we walked on down by the dockside and watched all the boats start to take off. Some of the boats take people all the way down to the falls, and you'll definitely need a poncho for that unless you don't mind being soaking wet. It was a little chiller by the lakeside and me, not having the best shirt of choice, spent a little time sticking to the sun patches and admiring from a distance while everyone continued down. boatsOverall, it was a great day. It was one of the best day trips I've taken this year and a great way to wrap up the ends of summer. With autumn approaching I'll definitely be looking back on these days fondly. flowersHow are you spending the last few weeks? Have you ever been to the honeymoon capital or Niagara-on-the-Lake before? xo Novellette
