A Quick Note
Hey everyone! Having had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday (more on that to come), I'm afraid today's post is going to have to be a quick note but a good one : )
To help everyone get even more into the summery vibe, I have the perfect June quote that I must share with you all and a fun little story to accompany the above picture.
"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade." - Gertrude Jekyll
As for our story, it all started once when my family was on vacation in Hawaii. My family is full of art lovers, so when my parents caught sight of this piece hanging on one of the gallery walls, they knew they inevitably wanted it for our home. Although, an obstacle arose quickly after our interest.
Unfortunately, the local Hawaiian artist, Andrade Hemming, had not named the painting before flying off to attend a semester of art school in Florida. This made it impossible for the gallery to sell the painting, as their policy restricted the sale of work that could not be catalogued with a proper title. In short, they needed the artist's personal permission to sell it, a bit of a problem now that half the world separated us. However, seeing how much my parents loved the work, the gallery decided to make a few calls. Technology is a saving grace.
Low and behold, they were able to reach the artist in Florida who was very happy to hear my family's interest. After talking to them for sometime, he decided to name the painting after our family and poof, it was ours! I always wanted a piece of art named after me, so that day I could proudly check that off the bucket list. Sent back home to Canada, it now hangs proudly on our wall as a reminder.
So if you ever see a copy of this painting, you'll know the story behind it : )
